The Contributor of the Month is the New York State Library (NYSL), which has contributed over 800 microfilm reels to the project. The State Library's provision of duplicate negatives has been instrumental in NYSHN being able to provide representation in every county in the state, a goal the project anticipates meeting this summer. Also, the quality of the film has allowed the project to provide the highest possible level of OCR accuracy, which leads to increased user satisfaction. The efforts of Bernard Margolis, the Assistant Commissioner for Libraries and State Librarian, and Jeff Sohn, the Head of Documents and Digital Collections, made this donation to the NYS Historic Newspapers website possible.
Help Videos on the NYS Historic Newspapers Website
Two videos have been posted on the NYS Historic Newspaper website focusing on the new search interface that was implemented earlier this year. This is the first of the help videos to be restored to the new website interface, and more videos will be posted in the coming months. These new videos will include:
- An Introduction to the New Interface

Video on the Search Interface
The video on the Search Menu describes the project's new search interface that was implemented earlier this year. The video includes discussions on the different functions of the search menu, how to use those functions to provide the best search results, and how to utilize the browser cache feature to save search parameters.
